Brushwork – Monday 10th March

Aleph Sophotect, Netrod and Yudbot - click to enlarge

With only 2 weeks to go until the Spring Challenge, I’ve begun work on my latest wave of reinforcements. Thankfully in terms of what I need for the day I’m attending, I’m actually done (bar the varnishing and inevitable frosting…), but I want to keep going with these as I’d like them totally finished by the time Salute rolls around, where I plan to pick up some more terrain, a Dreadball team, and perhaps some Tohaa!

Okay, first up, my ‘star player’, the Sophotect:

I really enjoyed painting this model – I decided to go with a white coat, to help her stand out (as if the Mother Forge on her base wasn’t enough!). With my Aleph having a fairly dark colour scheme, I wanted to do something which would give a bit of brightness to the group.

Next up, a Yudbot, who will most likely help out the Sophotect in combat. I’ve followed the colour scheme of my Dakini Tactbots – all of my Aleph Remotes have a dark purple colour scheme, while the Lhosts (Devas and the like) are mostly black or very dark grey:

As part of the support pack, you also get 3 Netrods, and so I’ve painted one of them up, in preparation for the Posthumans which I also recently acquired:

Speaking of Posthumans, I’ve begun work on one of them. I plan to use them more in non-ITS games, as I think in a system where you’ve only got 3 turns to complete your objective (ie: ITS missions), the loss of an order for taking a pair of Posthumans is a bit too much of a burden, so they’ll be used in non-competitive games only. They’re superb fun though!

Finally, here’s a little group shot to round out this post. Next time, I’ll be finishing the Posthuman Mk1 Proxy, as well as working on the rest of the box!

  1. Nice work again. That colour scheme works well.

Im not very familiar with the Infinity range and I definitely havent seen the Yudbot before. It looks a bit like a SD/super deformed character. Is that intentional for that unit or just the style of the faction or something?

I like the beacon. I cant get enough of cool little terrain pieces/objective markers like that.

What DreadBall team are you looking for? I have duplicates of a couple.

  2. Thank you! 🙂

The Yudbot is a little helper bot which gets controlled by an Engineer/Medic to go and carry out tasks for them without having to expose the specialist itself to fire. Most of the factions in Infinity have them by various names (PanOceania has Palbots, Haqqislam has Nasmats, Combined Army has Slave Drones etc), but for the most part they do look like an SD humanoid – I guess it’s partly a design choice since the aesthetic is Manga-inspired. That and I guess search and rescue and/or stealth ops are better carried out by a small thing!

I’m probably going to get a Robot team for Dreadball, as I quite like the adaptability of them.

  3. Looks like some good work to me. I`ll send some positive waves your way for the varnishing thus nullifying the frosting for you.

  4. Great painting. I love the way that the purple looks on the yudbot. For the Sophotect, is that just some scenery on the base or has she got Dalek feet?

    1. The thing on the Sophotect’s base is her Mother Forge (basically a device which follows her around (presumably with anti-grav tech) which has lots of nanomachines and computing power etc in it and allows her to fix/repair/heal things in game. She actually has normal feet 🙂
