Brushwork – Monday 15th June

Ectros with HMG - click to enlarge

I know I said last time that I’d be finishing off the Clipsos sniper, however, I’m going to a tournament this weekend and decided that the models I’m taking need painting first, so there’s been a slight change on the order of production!

I’ve decided that I’d like to try taking a few things I don’t normally use, one of them being the Ectros with HMG – I want to avoid being predictable, after all!

This guy’s been sat half-done for quite a while now (notice a running theme with my models there…), so this was ample opportunity to finish him off. Following the Gorgos and the predominantly black colours, I continued with this theme on the Ectros, and I’ll be revisiting the other two Ectros models I’ve got to match this one – having too much blue alongside the orange like I did on my earlier models wasn’t the effect I wanted, but I’m pleased that adding more black has alleviated the issue I was having with their colour scheme:

I’m also taking along a Kaeltar specialist, since I want to see how their rules work (and having Chain of Command is something I’ve only tried once with my Aleph, so it’ll be interesting to see whether it helps much here). I started on the Symbiomates, since they’re so adorably cute that I couldn’t resist splashing some paint on them:

I started with a few thin coats of Trollslayer Orange, which I then washed with Reikland Fleshshade before highlighting back up from Trollslayer Orange through to Fire Dragon Bright then to Bestigor Flesh, with some Ceramite White thrown in as a final highlight. I then glazed the tummy with Fire Dragon Bright to tie the highlights together. I think it’s worked rather well, even if I do say so myself. For the scaly areas I simply left the flesh wash and painted the scales with Fire Dragon Bright. The crest was simply painted with Steel Legion Drab then given an Agrax Earthshade wash.

In order to take these two little monsters, I need to include the Kaeltar herself – this particular one is armed with a Light Shotgun. I’ve got a few more stages to complete with her before she’s done, however!

I’ll sign off this post with a few more shots of those adorable Symbiomates – more from me later this week when I’ll hopefully have both the Kaeltar and Clipsos finished off!

Very nice. The black does help to settle the brighter colours a bit and it works much better.

Those symbiomates are slowly growing on me too šŸ˜‰

Cheers! I’m really pleased with the results of adding more black to the colour scheme, for sure!
Hehe, those things are so cute!

Thanks! I’m pretty pleased with them – I probably spent an inordinate amount of time on what are essentially just tokens! šŸ™‚
